Finding stops near you

The Nearby tab shows the closest stop automatically. The Map tab displays stop pins with walking directions.

Nearby tab

The Nearby tab is your starting point. It automatically finds the closest transit stops using your device location and shows upcoming arrivals for each one.

  • Closest Stop: The nearest stop is shown at the top with real-time arrivals, route badges, direction, and countdowns.
  • Show more nearby stops: Tap to expand and see additional stops in your area.
  • Walk to this stop: Tap to switch to the Map tab with walking directions to that stop.

Location permission is required for the Nearby tab. Arelo only needs “While Using the App” permission. It never requests background location.

Closest accessible stop

In Settings → Accessibility, turn on Show closest accessible stop. The Nearest Stop section is replaced with the nearest ADA-accessible stop instead of the absolute closest stop. This may be farther away but is guaranteed to be wheelchair accessible.

Map tab

The Map tab shows all nearby stops as colored pins. Tap a pin to preview arrivals, then tap again to open the full stop detail page.

When you tap Walk to this stop from any screen, the Map tab activates with:

  • A green pin at the destination stop
  • A blue walking route line
  • Estimated walking time in a banner at the bottom

Walking banner actions

  • Copy address: Copies the stop's street address to your clipboard.
  • Open in Maps: Opens walking directions in Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze (your choice).

Walking time adjusts based on your mobility profile (Settings → Accessibility → Travel speed). If your profile is set to Wheelchair, Motorized, or Walker/Cane, an orange notice appears that walking directions may include stairs or uneven surfaces. Apple Maps routes are not always optimized for wheelchair access.

BART is pulling itself together after equipment issues between 19th St and MacArthur. Major delays everywhere still. Caltrain 159 moved to Track 8 at Diridon. Mercury retrograde doesn't end until Thursday and I'm just saying. The waning crescent isn't helping either.

Downtown A trains paused at 168th while they remove a car that needs cleaning. Downtown 4/6 trains paused at 59th for a door problem. Why does everything happen at once on a Tuesday? Two different problems, two different stations, same moment. The city keeps moving anyway.
